Getting Started
RidePack requires iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The Apple Watch companion app requires watchOS 10 or later. Voice travels over your cellular or Wi-Fi connection, so a network connection is required during a ride. See Set up RidePack & check devices.
Open the app and grant location permission. RidePack uses your location to surface nearby rides. Tap a ride to request to join — the ride owner approves each request. To start your own ride, tap Create and your crew can find and join you the same way. See Join a group ride.
There's no fixed cap — RidePack comfortably handles a full club ride. Every rider joins the same real-time channel regardless of how spread out the group gets. Each rider subscribes for themselves — there's no group owner covering the cost for everyone.
No — RidePack voice travels over your cellular or Wi-Fi connection, so each rider needs a network connection during the ride. If you briefly lose signal, the app reconnects automatically as soon as coverage returns.
RidePack is free to download. Riding requires a RidePack Pro subscription, which covers everything: unlimited-range group voice, hands-free open mic, and the Apple Watch companion. Each rider subscribes for themselves — there's no group owner covering the cost for everyone. RidePack Pro is $4.99/month or $29.99/year for individuals, or $9.99/month / $59.99/year for the Family plan (up to 6 people via Apple Family Sharing) — each with a 7-day free trial, managed through your Apple ID. See RidePack Pro plans & subscriptions.
The individual plans are per-rider and not shareable. The Pro Family plans ($9.99/month or $59.99/year) support Apple Family Sharing — one subscription covers up to 6 members of your Apple Family group, each with full Pro access. Note that Family Sharing works only within an Apple Family group, which is limited to 6 people and one group per Apple ID — it is not a way for a riding club to split one subscription. See Set up RidePack Pro Family Sharing.
Voice & Audio
RidePack keeps your mic live for the entire ride on an open channel — the moment you speak, your group hears you. There's no button to press and no activation threshold. Music ducks automatically when anyone broadcasts. Tap Mute to drop off the channel; tap again to rejoin instantly. See Open-mic voice, mute & audio.
RidePack uses iOS audio session routing to automatically lower the volume of any music playing on your device when a group member broadcasts. The moment the broadcast ends, your music returns to its original volume. This works with Apple Music, Spotify, and any app that uses iOS audio sessions.
Yes. Tap the Mute button in the active ride screen to drop off the channel instantly — your group hears nothing until you unmute. The mute state is also visible on your Apple Watch, and you can toggle it from your wrist without touching your phone.
The mic is always on during a ride — RidePack uses an open channel so your group hears you the moment you speak, with no button and no activation delay. Your music ducks automatically whenever anyone broadcasts. Use Mute if you need to step off the channel.
Yes. RidePack supports AirPods and any Bluetooth headphones or earbuds. The app preserves stereo audio quality so your music sounds the same while incoming voice plays clearly through your headphones.
Yes. Open Settings → Audio in the app and use the voice volume slider to balance incoming voice against your music. See Permissions & troubleshooting.
Features
Yes, on iPhone 14 and later. When you're in a ride, RidePack starts a Live Activity that displays the current speaker, your mute status, and member count in the Dynamic Island. It also appears on the Lock Screen so you can monitor your group without unlocking your phone. See Live Activity, battery & data.
The Apple Watch app is a companion to your iPhone. During a ride it mirrors everything in real time — the group name, who's speaking, the member list, and your mute status — and taps your wrist the moment someone in the pack speaks. You can mute yourself or leave the ride right from the Watch. It works alongside your iPhone (which runs the ride and handles your audio), so keep your phone with you on the ride. See Use the Apple Watch companion.
RidePack is designed to be battery-efficient. The microphone runs continuously during a ride, similar to a phone call, and location is sampled at low frequency. Expect battery usage similar to running a navigation app with music. Exact usage depends on group size and ride duration.
RidePack streams compressed voice using Opus audio over WebRTC — the same codec as a standard phone call, just with multiple streams. A rough estimate for typical conditions: 30–60 MB per hour, depending on group size and how much the group is talking. A 2-hour ride generally lands between 60–120 MB total. Open Mic streams your mic continuously, so your outgoing audio runs the full ride; incoming audio depends on how chatty the group is. For reference, that's less than most music streaming apps. A standard 5 GB/month plan is comfortable for several rides per week.
Losing signal will interrupt audio while you're in the dead zone. The app shows a Reconnecting indicator and automatically rejoins the group when signal returns, with no action required.
Yes. Installing RidePack adds a free sticker pack to the Messages app drawer — no Pro subscription needed. See Use the RidePack iMessage stickers.
Troubleshooting
Location is used to surface nearby rides and let your crew find you — RidePack only tracks it while you're actively in a ride or browsing nearby rides, not in the background afterward. Microphone access is required for open-mic voice. If you denied either on first launch, turn them back on in Settings → RidePack. See Permissions & troubleshooting.
Reconnecting means you've briefly lost signal — RidePack rejoins automatically once your connection recovers, with no action needed. Failed means it couldn't recover the connection; leave and rejoin the ride, and check that you have a working cellular or Wi-Fi connection. See Permissions & troubleshooting.
Privacy
No. Voice is transmitted live over WebRTC and never recorded or stored on our servers. The moment a broadcast ends, the audio is gone. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Go to Settings → Delete Account. You'll be asked to verify your identity with Sign In with Apple, then your account, display name, and any rides you own are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone. If you need further help, email privacy@ridepack.app. See Privacy, account & feedback.
