Permissions RidePack needs
- Location (While Using the App) — used to surface nearby rides and let your crew find you. RidePack only tracks your location while you're actively in a ride or browsing nearby rides; it doesn't track you in the background once you've left.
- Microphone — required for open-mic voice. Without it, RidePack can't put you on the channel.
If you denied either permission on first launch, open Settings → RidePack and turn them back on, then relaunch the app.
Understanding connection status
The active ride screen shows your connection state. Here's what each one means:
- Connecting — RidePack is joining the voice channel. This is normal for a couple of seconds at the start of a ride.
- Connected — you're live on the channel and can hear and be heard by the group.
- Reconnecting — you've lost signal or briefly dropped from the channel. RidePack rejoins automatically as soon as your connection recovers; no action is needed.
- Failed — RidePack couldn't establish or recover the connection. Leave and rejoin the ride, and check that you have a working cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
Adjust voice volume
If incoming voices are too loud or too quiet relative to your music, open Settings → Audio in the app and use the voice volume slider to balance the two.
Common fixes
-
No sound from the group
Check that Microphone access is granted and that your phone isn't in silent/mute mode if you're not using headphones. Confirm you're not muted in the app.
-
Can't find a nearby ride
Confirm Location permission is set to at least While Using the App, and that the ride owner has started the ride and is nearby.
-
Stuck on Reconnecting
Move to an area with better cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. If it persists, leave the ride and rejoin.
