Getting Started
RidePack requires iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The Apple Watch companion app requires watchOS 10 or later. Local rides between nearby riders use a direct Bluetooth and Wi-Fi mesh — no internet required. An internet connection is only needed for cloud relay (groups spread beyond Bluetooth range, at which point cloud relay kicks in automatically).
Open the app and grant location permission. RidePack uses your location to surface nearby rides. Tap a ride to request to join — the ride owner approves each request. To start your own ride, tap Create and your crew can find and join you the same way.
Local rides support up to 8 riders using the direct Bluetooth and Wi-Fi mesh — no subscription needed. When riders drift out of local range, cloud relay takes over automatically. Cloud relay requires a RidePack Pro subscription held by each rider who needs it — there's no group owner covering the cost for everyone.
It depends on your group. When all riders are nearby, voice travels over a direct Bluetooth and Wi-Fi mesh between devices — no internet connection needed. An internet connection is only required when riders drift out of local range at which point cloud relay kicks in automatically. If you're riding entirely in a local group, you can ride without cellular coverage.
RidePack is $4.99. Groups of up to 8 riders using local connections — voice between riders within direct range — are included with that purchase, forever. A subscription is required for: cloud relay (when you drift out of local range) and Apple Watch standalone mode. Each rider who needs cloud relay subscribes for themselves — there's no group owner covering the cost for everyone. RidePack Pro is $2.99/month (3-day free trial) or $19.99/year (1-week free trial), managed through your Apple ID.
Yes. Both the $4.99 app purchase and the RidePack Pro subscription support Apple Family Sharing. With Family Sharing, one subscription covers up to 6 family members — each member gets their own full access under the shared subscription. Manage sharing through your Apple ID settings.
Voice & Audio
RidePack keeps your mic live for the entire ride on an open channel — the moment you speak, your group hears you. There's no button to press and no activation threshold. Music ducks automatically when anyone broadcasts. Tap Mute to drop off the channel; tap again to rejoin instantly.
RidePack uses iOS audio session routing to automatically lower the volume of any music playing on your device when a group member broadcasts. The moment the broadcast ends, your music returns to its original volume. This works with Apple Music, Spotify, and any app that uses iOS audio sessions.
Yes. Tap the Mute button in the active ride screen to drop off the channel instantly — your group hears nothing until you unmute. The mute state is also visible on your Apple Watch, and you can toggle it from your wrist without touching your phone.
The mic is always on during a ride — RidePack uses an open channel so your group hears you the moment you speak, with no button and no activation delay. Your music ducks automatically whenever anyone broadcasts. Use Mute if you need to step off the channel.
Yes. RidePack supports AirPods and any Bluetooth headphones or earbuds. The app preserves stereo audio quality so your music sounds the same while incoming voice plays clearly through your headphones.
Features
Yes, on iPhone 14 and later. When you're in a ride, RidePack starts a Live Activity that displays the current speaker, your mute status, and member count in the Dynamic Island. It also appears on the Lock Screen so you can monitor your group without unlocking your phone.
Yes. The Watch app has a standalone mode for when your iPhone is out of Bluetooth range — stowed in a jersey pocket or a bag. The Watch connects directly to the same real-time voice channel as your group over LiveKit's WebRTC infrastructure, so you can still participate in a ride. Standalone mode requires a cellular Apple Watch and a subscription.
Optionally, yes. Enable workout tracking in Settings and RidePack automatically starts an outdoor cycling workout in Apple Health when you join a ride. This gives your activity rings credit and makes music controls available on your Apple Watch's Now Playing page.
RidePack is designed to be battery-efficient. The microphone runs continuously during a ride, similar to a phone call, and location is sampled at low frequency. Expect battery usage similar to running a navigation app with music. Exact usage depends on group size and ride duration.
It depends on which channel your group is using. If everyone is nearby and on the local Bluetooth and Wi-Fi mesh, losing cell signal has no effect — local audio keeps working normally. If your group is using cloud relay (riders spread out beyond local range), losing signal will interrupt audio. The app shows a Reconnecting indicator and automatically rejoins the group when signal returns, with no action required.
Privacy
No. Voice is transmitted live over WebRTC and never recorded or stored on our servers. The moment a broadcast ends, the audio is gone. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Go to Settings → Delete Account. You'll be asked to verify your identity with Sign In with Apple, then your account, display name, and any rides you own are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone. If you need further help, email privacy@ridepack.app.
